In this class ECE 450 I learned about bilingual education in early child hood and how to go about advocating for it. Also, I learn from my field hours of observations, my interview with professional and from the research required for this class. I learn how Infant/toddler professional needs to demonstrate respect towards the children and treat each one of them as a unique person and offering them quality time. One important insight that I gained from my host teacher is than when planning for the children the teacher should follow the child’s interest and plan based on the child’s goals not the teacher’s goals. In addition it is crucial to plan with your coworkers the activities that will be implemented for each child. By doing this all the teachers can share information based on observations and provide new innovated ideas that will benefit the children and families. I enjoyed every minute of my fieldwork experience. The teachers were very helpful and very respectful toward my ideas and opinions.
My research paper was very difficult for me but writing this paper I learn how is important to support the children to be taught on their home language. Also, this paper encourages me to advocate that the parents of the children continue to fight for the rights of their children to receive education in their home language in their early years.
I would like to take this time and thank my fellow colleagues for their support and advice. It has been a pleasure to be in this course with all of you. I wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and findings through the research that we conducted. Also, to our professor Francesca, thank you for understanding me and guiding me. You are one of the few professors that understand that as working adults it is not easy, thank you for your support.
